Camp Kaleideum: Summer Week-Long Camps

 

Camp Kaleideum is a hands-on, curiosity-fueled experience where kids spend their days exploring science, creating art, building solutions, and learning through play. Each week blends STEAM activities, collaborative challenges, and time throughout the museum—building imagination, confidence, and a love of discovery. It’s a place where campers don’t just learn; they begin to see what’s possible.

Pre-K & Rising K

Members $250 | Non-members $300
(Must be 4 years old by May 1, 2026)

Campers need to be able to use the bathroom independently and have the ability to use a public restroom without immediate assistance from an adult.

Week of May 26-29 (Four-Day Week)

Out of the World

Learn what it takes to become an astronaut and discover what lies beyond the earth. Explore all the planets in our solar system, make moon sand, launch rockets, and journey through the stars in our planetarium. Blast off for some out-of-this-world fun!

Week of June 1-5

Masterpiece Makers

Unleash your imagination and discover your inner Picasso! Spend the week exploring art techniques such as painting, sculpting, and more. With a paint brush in hand and a palette of creativity, campers will flourish while producing masterpieces of their own!

Expedition Earth

Take a trip around the world! Trek through rainforests, crawl through caves, explore the deep depths of the ocean, and soar through the sky. Each day will be a new adventure as we discover all the amazing things Earth has to offer!

Ms. Frizzle and Friends

Hop on board the magic school bus and take a fantastic voyage through the world of science! Observe worlds big and small. During this crazy adventure we’ll explore the layers of the earth, dive into the ocean, get swept away in a storm, and more!

Up, Up & Away

How do you get from here to there? A bus, a car, a trolley, a train, a plane, a hot air balloon — maybe even a rocket! Explore the world of transportation and head home with new ideas about motion, and even a few one-of-a-kind vehicles!

Mess it Up!

Play like a scientist with droppers, measuring spoons, flasks, and test tubes while creating explosive works of art! Campers will finger-paint, make slime, meet some slippery slimy animals, and partake in some real messy experiments. Dress to get messy!

Week of July 6-10

Animal Antics

From flopping fish to furry mammals, explore the entire animal kingdom! Create your own animal habitat, compete in animal relay races, and experience close encounters with a few of the museum’s ambassador animals.

LEGO® Lab

Ready, set, build! Let your imagination run wild while creating cars, conducting LEGO science experiments, and completing LEGO challenges. Test the basic principles of engineering as you work together to plan the ultimate brick city.

Full STEAM Ahead

Play like a scientist with droppers, measuring spoons, flasks, and test tubes while creating explosive works of art! Experiment with robots, create the strongest structure, and make your own playdough. Get ready to experiment and create!

Storybook Science

Dive into magical worlds and bring your favorite storybook characters to life! Campers will experience their favorite stories in a new way by building, exploring, and experimenting alongside their favorite storybook characters.

Join us at the intersection of technology, art, and innovation! Experiment with circuits and get creative using Spheros to make unique works of art. Make brick creations come to life with LEGO Spike kits and program Botley and Bee-Bot robots to follow your commands.

Build a time machine ad go on an adventure from the past to the present. Travel through the ages and learn about the great discoveries of the past. From Renaissance painters to Edison and Tesla, we’ll uncover advances in art and science through time and space.

Engineer It

Put on your thinking cap to engineer solutions to amazing challenges! Learn the engineering process as you build looming spaghetti towers, experiment with robotics, and even create your own Rube Goldberg machine.

Slime Time

Get ready for sticky, stretchy, messy fun! Try out different slime recipes as we make magnetic, rainbow, and fluffy slimes, as well as explore slime in nature. Experiment with different ingredients to create your own super slime recipe!

Design It

Venture with us into the world of wizards through imaginative play and science experiments. Our academy’s core subjects include potions and charms, and extracurricular studies range from fantastic beasts to Quidditch. Muggles are welcome!

Cardboard Challenge

Get ready to create! Use cardboard to make moving contraptions, design your own cardboard arcade game, and create life sized structures. From castles to rocket ships, use your imagination and engineering skills to create the ultimate cardboard fort!

Wicked Reactions

Start your week with a BANG! Learn how to create a lasting impact with elephant toothpaste, experiment with acids and bases, and grow your own crystals! Prepare to have your mind blown as you experiment with hands-on chemistry activities and demonstrations.

Electrifying Science

Get charged up about energy and optics! Experiment with the Van der Graaf generator and plasma ball to learn about electricity. Play with Snap Circuits and Makey-Makey kits to discover the science of circuits and create a unique sun print using solar energy.

Biome Bonanza

Join Wake Forest University Engineers as we explore science and engineering through tasty treats. Experiment with the chemistry of recipes, use engineering tools such as 3D printers to create one-of-a-kind eats, and put teamwork to the test in Bake-Off challenges. Wrap up the week by showcasing your catapult design skills for an end of camp food fight!

Join us, along with Piedmont Environmental Alliance and Wake Forest University as we dive into the science of our planet! Campers will investigate local water quality, test filtration methods, design clean-energy contraptions, and discover how everyday choices can protect Earth’s future.

Maker Revolution

Your brain is filled with wonderful creations waiting to come alive! Use the design process to dream up ideas while utilizing some of the latest technologies such as laser cutters and 3D printers to make them come to life. Experiment with robots, create wire sculptures, and construct amazing cardboard creations!

Week of June 22-26

Creative Coding

Join us at the intersection of technology, art, and innovation! We’ll go from block coding to create unique works of art with Spheros, to using LEGO Spike robotics kits to complete a variety of challenges, and finally to using text code to play with sensors to recognize colors and symbols.

Coding Adventure

($35 equipment fee will be added to camp registration)

Power up your imagination and critical thinking as we create our own video games! Learn coding fundamentals and apply them in multiple languages — from block coding to Python. Working with multiple device and input methods, design your video game and bring it to life. You’ll leave with your very own PyBadge that you can continue to code at home!

Week of July 6-10

Inventor’s Workshop

Put your ingenuity to the test with a week of engineering, prototyping, and inventing. Tackle real world problems through inventing by designing shelters, creating tools to clean up oil spills and making an invention of your own. The sky is the limit on what you can create!

Week of July 13-17

STEM Exploration

It’s not just about wearing a lab coat. Discover all that STEM has to offer as you explore various careers in biology, architecture, and environmental science. Run DNA gels, explore deep space, design a house, and collect and identify animals in a stream ecosystem.

Week of July 20-24

Chemical Meltdown

Watch science in action through chemical reactions! Become a scientist and experiment with different slime recipes, create elephants’ toothpaste, freeze things in liquid nitrogen, and create some explosive reactions with a chemist.

Week of July 27-31

Kaleideum Carnival

Step right up for a week of curiosity, creativity, and hands-on discovery! Campers will use their imagination to experiment and build as they explore the science and design process behind some of their favorite carnival games and create some one-of-a-kind games of their own.

Spend your summer exploring hands-on creativity in Kaleideum’s Maker Mondays! This
workshop series is designed for middle and high school students who want to experiment,
make, and explore different ways ideas become real. Each session focuses on a unique art
or design process — from sewing and bookmaking to printmaking, sculpture, and digital
fabrication. Participants will learn new skills, express their ideas, and create take-home
projects in a supportive, fun, and maker-friendly environment.

Learn basic sewing skills while creating a functional project like a tote bag or pillow. Participants will explore fabric, simple machine sewing, and customization techniques to make something both practical and personal.

Laser Design Lab

Snacks and Lunch

Full-day Campers should bring two snacks, lunch, and a water bottle.

Please label your child’s personal items with their first and last name.

 

Camper Clothing

Please send your child in clothing that is comfortable for indoor and outdoor, hands-on, messy activities. Closed shoes with socks are preferred. Please, NO flip-flops.

 

 

Registration, Payments, and Cancellations
All payments are due in full upon registration. Registration is available online, with payment accepted via MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover.
Campers must be listed on the membership to qualify for the member discount.
There will be no refunds on Day Camps at Kaleideum one week prior to the start of camp.
