Hands-on learning awaits...

BioTech DayMore than 500 middle and high school students learned about biotechnology careers at SciWorks’ annual Biotechnology Day on September 26. The program is sponsored by N.C. BioNetwork, which brings in organizations to provide hands-on activities that will show how biotechnology is part of our every day lives.

“Our goal is to let students know that biotechnology careers can range from an Associates Degree to a Ph.D.,” says Cheryl Bowman, Director of BioNetwork Winston-Salem “It’s not just a scientist in a lab coat in a laboratory.”

Students came from throughout the Triad and Learned learned about such things as micropropagation, DNA extraction and medical devices from 10 different biotech and life science organizations. The event is so popular that SciWorks and N.C. BioNetwork are planning to hold another Biotechnology Day on April 10.
