Get ready for a stellar adventure at Kaleideum! Launch yourself into an action-packed day filled with space-themed crafts, experiments, and hands-on activities as part of the Statewide Star Party. The 2025 North Carolina Science Festival’s Statewide Star Party is a signature initiative, thanks to support from the North Carolina Space Grant.
During the 13th annual Statewide Star Party, 42 hosts will offer public skywatching events across North Carolina on Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, 2025. Star Party hosts include astronomy clubs, state and local parks, colleges and universities, planetariums, science centers, nature centers, and libraries. About 4,000 visitors and 200 STEM professionals and volunteers are expected to participate.
This year’s Star Party theme is “Your Place in Space,” and Kaleideum will be leading a range of activities in Liberty Plaza for free.
- Solar Observation (10 am-Noon) – Peer through telescopes with the Forsyth Astronomical Society to safely view the Sun’s surface and learn about solar activity.
- Stomp Rockets – Ready, set, launch! See how far your rocket can soar.
- Pocket Solar System & Solar System Walk – Take a journey through the cosmos with interactive, outdoor activities that bring the vastness of space to life!
In addition, there will be activities inside the museum, which are included with admission or membership:
- Moon Phases & Moon Sand Box – Explore the ever-changing face of the Moon and dig into a tactile lunar experience!
- Powers of Ten and the Relative Size of Things in the Universe – Catch a special screening of the classic Powers of Ten and the Relative Size of Things in the Universe film in the Think Tank, Powers of Ten and the Relative Size of Things in the Universe is a film created by Charles and Ray Eames of the Eames Office in 1977.
