With all the clouds and rain, it’s fun to look for rainbows. If you can’t find one outside, though, you can do this experiment in your kitchen with Skittles, water, and a white plate to create your own rainbow!
Have your kids make a hypothesis about what will happen when the water is poured on the Skittles. Help them learn more about dissolving, absorption, and how colors mix.
Ask open-ended questions, such as:
1) What changes could they make to this experiment?
2) Could this Skittles science experiment work with another type of candy such as gumdrops?
3) What would happen if you tried a different liquid and compared the results?
