Hands-on learning awaits...

Kaleideum is offering a wide array of events that promise “something fun for everyone” over the holidays. On Friday, December 1, Kaleideum Downtown (formerly the Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem) will host Supper and Santa from 6-8 pm. Participants will enjoy dinner, crafts, cookie-decorating, story time, and a visit from the man in red himself. Hearts & Arrows Photography will photograph each child on Santa’s lap and email the photo to parents. The cost for Supper and Santa is $18 (+tax) for Kaleideum members and $20 (+tax) for non-members. Pre-registration is required.

The following Friday, December 8, Kaleideum North (formerly SciWorks) will host its annual Festive Family Friday from 4:30-8:30 pm. Sponsored by Spangler, Rohlfing, & Lambert Pediatric Dentistry and My Office Products, Festive Family Friday will be filled with live music, holiday crafts, science demonstrations, a puppet show, live animal encounters, festive laser shows in the Planetarium, and visits with Santa and other special characters. Admission is $3 (+tax) per person for Kaleideum members and non-members.

On Saturday, December 9, from 10:30 am-Noon, children can take part in the Elf Tea Party at Kaleideum Downtown. Registered participants will make an elf costume, elf doughnuts, and reindeer food, sing silly songs, and enjoy tea-time snacks. The Elf Tea Party fee is $15 (+tax) per Kaleideum member child (one free adult) and $23 (+tax) per non-member child (one free adult). Admission is included with child registration. (Additional adults are $4 (+tax) each, and museum admission is not included.) Pre-registration is required.

Drop-in Gingerbread House Workshops are an annual tradition at Kaleideum Downtown. Children can make-and-take a mini gingerbread house for $6.50 (+tax), building their creations with a mini milk carton, graham crackers, icing, and a variety of sweet treats. (Museum admission is not included but is required.) The drop-in workshops will take place on Thursday, December 21, from 4-8 pm and again on Friday, December 22, from 9 am-2 pm.

Over winter break, students ages 6-12 can take part in Science Day Camps at Kaleideum North. Camps will be offered December 27-29 from 9 am–4 pm, with early drop-off and late pick-up options available. Campers may register for one, two, or three days of camp. Per day fee is $40 for Kaleideum members and $45 for non-members. Topics are Classic Superheroes, Dog’s Best Friend, and Wizard Wonderland.

On Saturday, December 30, families will count down to Noon Year’s Eve at Kaleideum Downtown. Visitors can create an egg shaker and a festive 2018 headband in The Prop Shop. At 11:40 am, everyone will gather for fun songs, silly activities, and a storytime. Then there will be a countdown to the “noon year” followed by a dance party under the disco ball. Activities are included with Museum admission and free for Kaleideum members.

Kaleideum Downtown is located at 390 S. Liberty Street in Winston-Salem, and Kaleideum North is located at 400 W. Hanes Mill Road, also in Winston-Salem.
