Peppercorn Theatre at Kaleideum will present Música, Música, Máximo Música, an original play for very young audiences written by New York-based playwright Christina Quintana. The production begins on December 27 at Kaleideum North in Winston-Salem. Young audience members and their caregivers are invited to join a little boy named Máximo and his ukulele-strumming kitten, Mandito, as they discover the rhythms of life and spread the sound in this interactive play. Live music, dance, puppets, and Spanish language shape this heartwarming tale.
Música, Peppercorn’s second Theatre for the Very Young (TVY) production, is created specifically for babies, toddlers, and their caregivers. Catering to a largely pre-verbal audience, Theatre for the Very Young is immersive, visually stimulating, relaxed, and focused on building the relationships between children and their adults. “TVY is a safe and comfortable environment for caregivers and young children to be immersed in a story designed just for them,” explains Becca Drew Ramsey, Kaleideum’s Director of Theatre and Performing Arts.
The play will also tour to Winston-Salem Family Services’ Early Head Start location to perform for their early childhood development classrooms and families.
Música, Música, Máximo Música stars Omar Sosa (current student, UNCSA A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute) as Máximo, Matias De La Flor (current student, UNCSA School of Drama) as Mandito, and Cynthia Cukiernik (artist and instructor, UNCSA ArtistCorps ArtsEngage) as Josefina. The 25-minute play will be presented December 27-29, January 2-6, 9, 11-13, and 15-20. Tickets are $5 (+tax) per person for Kaleideum members and $7 (+tax) for non-members. (Tickets do not include Museum admission.) Discounted tickets are available for $2.50 (+tax) for EBT cardholders through Kaleideum’s new “Theatre for All” initiative.
