Hands-on learning awaits...

Where Innovation Begins is SciWorks’ largest fundraiser for the educational programs and exhibits at the science center. Introduced by SciWorks’ Board of Directors in 2010 to inspire the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County community and raise the museum’s profile, the event was held at Forsyth Country Club with a dinner, presentation and live and silent auctions.

Last year’s Where Innovation Begins fundraiser was chaired by SciWorks’ Board Members Patti Shugart and Robynn Rutledge. The evening’s theme was “transformation,” highlighted by the symbolic Monarch butterfly. Attendees were able to purchase the butterfly garden centerpieces donated by Jeff Allen Landscape Architecture, “adopt” a Monarch butterfly and bid on a variety of exciting auction packages. WXII Sports Director Kenny Beck acted as emcee for the evening, and Shannon Tate acted as auctioneer. Most exciting was the keynote speech by Dr. Nido Qubein, world-renowned speaker and president of High Point University. The event raised close to $95,000 for the science center.

This year proves to be even more exciting as it marks the fifth annual Where Innovation Begins fundraiser with a celebration of the science center’s 50th anniversary in Winston-Salem, the City of Arts and Innovation. Chaired by Liz and Stuart Vaughn, and Michelle and Craig Gunckel, the Black Tie event will be held downtown at Wake Forest Biotech Place in the Innovation Quarter with an evening that includes Dinner, Cocktails, Dancing and Games of Chance.

Tickets are $150 per person. For more information about this exciting evening, contact Jennifer Hudson at (336) 714-7110 or jhudson@sciworks.org for more information.
