Kaleideum offers virtual and on-site educational programs that will fascinate your students with exciting hands-on activities that correspond with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and the North Carolina Foundations for Early Learning and Development.
- For a school-year field trip, fill out and submit the online School-Year Field Trip Registration Form.
- For a summer field trip, fill out and submit the online Public and Summer Group Field Trip Registration Form. A Kaleideum scheduler will contact you when your registration form is received.

Your field trip or group visit to Kaleideum is not confirmed until you receive a confirmation letter from the Kaleideum scheduler. Please bring this confirmation letter with you to present to the front desk when you come.

Shapes in Motion

Grades PreK-K
What happens when a triangle dreams of having more than just three sides and corners? In this fun-filled story time program, we’ll explore familiar shapes and uncover exciting new ones. We’ll practice counting and sequencing, then get hands-on by creating shapes with steppingstones and ropes. To wrap up, each child will craft their own geometric masterpiece to take home!

Shake, Rattle & Roar

Grades PreK-K
Get ready to shake, rattle, groove and roar to the beat as we dive into the rhythmic tale Saturday Night at the Dinosaur Stomp. Science & Stories: A Turtle-y Fun

Join us for a literary and science adventure! Meet two of our live animal ambassadors and explore the differences between turtles and tortoises. Share facts about the critters and compare and contrast real and make-believe literature! Wrap up your lesson by creating a cool turtle craft.

Geology at Work (Offsite)

Grades 1-6+
Experience geology in action at Vulcan Materials Company’s quarry! Led by Kaleideum educators, view the quarry up close, and learn about the products mined here and the uses of these materials in everyday life. The Joseph A. Gutierrez Geology and Earth Science Museum at Vulcan also houses an ample collection of gems and minerals, so students can dig deeper into the basic components of Earth’s building blocks.
This program is fully sponsored by Vulcan Materials Company.
Groups are encouraged to visit Kaleideum free of charge on the same day as their Geology at Work program.

Shape Shifter Adventures

Grades 1-2
Get ready for a shape-tacular adventure! Join us as we read the story of an equilateral triangle who loves to change shapes—transforming into different quadrilaterals and polygons of all sizes! As we follow along, we’ll create the shapes from the story using steppingstones and ropes. Along the way, we’ll explore geometric vocabulary and learn all about sides, corners, and angles. Finally, students will create their own geometric designs.

H2Know: Testing Nature’s Waters (Offsite)

Explore Gateway Nature Preserve like environmental scientists! Collect water samples and test for pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, and more to uncover the health of the ecosystem. Can you predict if the water there is safe? Use nets to collect aquatic macroinvertebrates to help you make a more informed decision. Let science help you decide!

This program takes place at Gateway Nature Preserve. Please be advised that participants will walk to the stream site, so appropriate attire and footwear are recommended. If your group has any accessibility needs, we kindly ask that you inform us in advance so we can make the necessary accommodations. This show follows Sesame Street’s Big Bird and Elmo as they explore the night sky with Hu Hu Zhu, a Muppet from Zhima Jie, the Chinese co-production of Sesame Street. Together, they take an imaginary trip from Sesame Street to the Moon, where they discover how different it is from Earth. Children attending the show can interact as they watch, drawing constellations and counting the time it takes for the sun to set.
