In partnership with The Science of Winston-Salem, we are creating homopolar motors. Grab your batteries, turn your creativity on, and make your own creation today!
What You Need:
- AA batteries
- Copper wire
- Solid hookup wire
- Wire strippers
- Magnets
The Science Behind It:
Homopolar motors were the first kind of motor built by Michael Faraday in 1821 with a conductor, battery, and magnetic field! The wire spins due to the electric current flowing through it, which is also why it will stop spinning if you have a loose connection!
