In an effort to help working families during the unforeseen pandemic and subsequent virtual school quarter, Kaleideum is offering Remote Learning Support and Enrichment Opportunities for Fall 2020.

The programs will take place Kaleideum North located at 400 W Hanes Mill Road. “To support families who need help during this school year, Kaleideum has created three different learning opportunities this fall: Full-day Remote Learning Support for K-8, Morning Preschool Enrichment Camp for 3 to 5-year-olds, and Afternoon Enrichment Camp for K-5,” says Elizabeth Dampier, Kaleideum Executive Director. “While we are closed to the public, these small cohorts of children will have full advantage of Kaleideum’s staff and large North campus facilities, which includes plenty of outdoor space and walking trails.”

In accordance with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools’ July 17 decision to begin the 2020-2021 school year in its “Plan C Remote Learning model,” remote learning support and enrichment will be available Monday through Friday, from August 17 until October 23, 2020. Continuation of this program past the listed dates is contingent upon later decisions made by local school systems regarding in-person and remote learning models.

  • Remote Learning Support will be available for grades K-8 from 8 am-6 pm. The cost is $2,250 for the first quarter session for Kaleideum members or $2,500 for non-members. Additional siblings may register for the discounted rate of $2,100 regardless of member status. Students are welcome to join at any point in the quarter session, and will have their amount prorated to reflect later registration dates. In this program, students will be in small group sizes and will work within the remote learning curricula provided by their school, as well as participate in afternoon enrichment activities.
  • Morning Preschool Enrichment Camp will be available for children ages 3-5 from 9 am-12:30 pm at the cost of $100 per week for Kaleideum members or $120 per week for non-members.
  • Afternoon Enrichment Camp will be available for grades K-5 from 1:30 pm-5:30 pm at the cost of $110 per week for Kaleideum members or $130 per week for non-members.

In both of the half-day enrichment camps, kids will play games, explore the outdoors, and take part in science, art, and engineering enrichment programming to support learning and social/emotional development. These camps may be purchased on a weekly basis or for the entire quarter at a discounted rate.

As Kaleideum plans for the fall and its eventual reopening to the public, the museum continues to work hard to keep everyone safe and healthy. To achieve this, increased sanitation and health protocols have been put in place for staff, facilities, and visitors. These procedures include daily temperature checks for both staff and visitors, as well as more frequent cleaning and sanitizing of common touch points.
